They attend pre-bid meetings to clarify project requirements and expectations. * **Cost Estimation**: They prepare detailed cost estimates for projects, which include labor, materials, and other necessary expenses. This involves using historical data, vendor quotes, and productivity analysis to support their estimates. * **Collaboration with Stakeholders**: Estimation engineers work closely with project managers, clients, and subcontractors to gather information and provide accurate estimates. They may also interface with owners and architects to provide engineering and cost data. * **Bid Preparation**: They are involved in preparing bids for projects, ensuring that all aspects of the project are accounted for in the financial proposal. This includes negotiating contracts and terms with suppliers and subcontractors. * **Value Engineering**: Estimation engineers conduct value engineering studies to optimize project costs while maintaining quality. They analyze budget constraints and suggest alternatives to improve cost efficiency. * **Documentation and Reporting**: They maintain detailed records of estimates, project changes, and communications with stakeholders. This includes preparing shop drawings and submittals, as well as overseeing the status of these documents. * **Technical Support and Training**: Estimation engineers often provide technical support to junior engineers and project staff, coaching them on estimation processes and methodologies. * **Job Cost Tracking**: They set up job cost tracking systems to monitor project expenses and ensure that projects remain within budget.
