Structural Engineer – Aluminum & Glass Industry

**Job Summary** The Structural Engineer is responsible for the design, analysis, and certification of aluminum and glass structures. You will work closely with architects and the fabrication team to ensure that facade systems are not only aesthetically pleasing but also structurally sound and compliant with international building codes. **Key Responsibilities1. Structural Analysis & Design** * Perform rigorous calculations for **wind load, dead load, and seismic pressures** on glass panels and aluminum framing. * Design structural glass systems, including point-supported glass, glass fins, and bolted connections. * Conduct **Finite Element Analysis (FEA)** for complex geometries or non-standard facade components. * Select appropriate alloys and glass types (tempered, laminated, or heat-strengthened) based on safety and performance requirements. **2. Technical Documentation** * Prepare detailed structural calculation reports for submission to consultants, municipalities, or civil defense authorities. * Review shop drawings to ensure they align with structural designs and connection details. * Develop technical specifications for materials and installation methods. **3. Collaboration & Consultation** * Coordinate with the **Design & Drafting** team to optimize aluminum profiles for both strength and material economy. * Provide technical support to the **Estimation Department** during the bidding phase to ensure structural feasibility. * Advise the **Project Management** team on site-specific challenges, such as building movements or floor deflections. **4. Compliance & Quality Control** * Ensure all designs meet local and international standards (e.g., ASTM, BS EN, or ASCE). * Oversee or review **Performance Mock-up (PMU)** tests, including air infiltration and water penetration tests, to validate structural integrity. **Required Skills & Qualifications Technical Skills** * **Software Proficiency:** Expert knowledge of structural analysis software such as **STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, ETABS,** or specialized facade software like **SJ Mepla** or **Rfm Glass**. * **CAD Knowledge:** Proficiency in **AutoCAD** (2D/3D); Revit/BIM experience is often preferred. * **Material Expertise:** Deep understanding of the mechanical properties of aluminum extrusions and various glass compositions. **Education & Experience** * **Degree:** Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in **Civil or Structural Engineering**. * **Certification:** Valid membership in a professional engineering body (e.g., Municipality Approved Engineer or PE license) is often required depending on the region. * **Experience:** Typically 5+ years specifically within the **Facade/Fenestration** industry.
