J&C Joel provide a wide range of products and services for the entertainment and events industry. These include; motorised and manual rigging, stage engineering, flame retardant fabrics, and technical drapery. **Role Overview** This is a newly created position within J&C Joel Ltd, representing the first dedicated electrical engineering role in the business. We are seeking a capable, self-sufficient Electrical Systems Design Engineer to join our Dubai-based Projects Department, reporting directly to the Head of Design. As the sole electrical engineering resource within the company, this is a role that demands a high degree of independence, professional confidence, and personal accountability. There is no internal electrical team to lean on, so the candidate must be comfortable owning their outputs entirely; accuracy and quality are paramount. This is an exciting opportunity for the right individual to shape and establish the electrical design function of a growing business. In addition to electrical work, the role will include periods working on mechanical-type drawings for curtain track installations. Full training will be provided for this aspect of the role, and no prior experience in this area is required, however, candidates must be comfortable with this expectation and embrace the variety it brings. The role will span projects both within the UAE and the UK, requiring an appreciation of the regulatory environments applicable in both regions. **Key Responsibilities** **Electrical Systems Design** * Specify cables for stage engineering systems, including type, size, quantity, and approved brands, in accordance with project requirements and relevant standards. * Design and size cable containment systems (cable trays, trunking, conduit routes), producing fully coordinated containment layout drawings. * Produce detailed technical documentation including cable schedules, containment drawings, single-line diagrams, load schedules and equipment specifications. * Work alongside external control system suppliers to understand their system and effectively integrate it within a project. The candidate will not be required to design control systems from scratch. * Ensure all designs comply with applicable local and international electrical standards, including IEC, BS 7671, UAE DEWA regulations, and relevant UK regulatory requirements depending on project location. * Support the procurement process by producing accurate material take-offs and equipment schedules. * Liaise with internal project teams and external clients or consultants to confirm design intent and resolve technical queries. * Review and interpret architectural and structural drawings to coordinate electrical routing and containment layouts. * Provide technical support during design reviews, installation, and commissioning phases. **Mechanical Drawing Support** * Produce mechanical-type drawings for curtain track installation projects, as required. * Full training will be provided; prior experience in this area is not expected but a willingness to learn is essential. **Site & Travel** * Undertake site visits and project-related travel as required, estimated at 10–20% of working time. * Support the site team in diagnosing and troubleshooting issues. * The majority of travel will be local within the UAE; some international travel may be required, including to the UK. * A valid UAE driving licence is required for this role. **What We're Looking For** Given the standalone nature of this role, we are looking for someone who is not only technically strong but also confident working without direct peer support. The successful candidate will take full ownership of their designs and documentation; outputs must be right first time. We need someone who is proactive, self-motivated, and comfortable being the go-to electrical authority within the business. **Required Skills & Experience** * 3–6 years of experience in electrical design engineering, with a demonstrable focus on cable and containment system specification. * Proficiency in producing engineering drawings using AutoCAD or equivalent CAD software. * Strong working knowledge of cable sizing principles, voltage drop calculations, and containment design. * Experience working within the theatre, live entertainment, or stage engineering industry is highly desirable. * Familiarity with IEC, BS 7671, and UAE electrical regulations is advantageous; an understanding of applicable UK electrical regulations is a further advantage given the dual-region nature of the role. * Ability to manage multiple project deliverables simultaneously and work to deadlines without close supervision. * Comfortab
