Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the company's financial records. The role oversees the general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, VAT and Corporate Tax compliance, and month-end and year-end closing activities. The Senior Accountant supports management with financial reporting, cost control, and audit readiness, while mentoring junior accounting staff and enforcing strong internal controls. Key Responsibilities — Accounting & Reporting * Maintain accurate and up-to-date general ledger entries, ensuring all transactions are properly recorded and classified. * Lead month-end and year-end closing processes, including accruals, prepayments, depreciation, and provisions. * Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS. * Perform bank, supplier, customer, and intercompany reconciliations on a timely basis. * Review and post journal entries prepared by junior staff, ensuring accuracy and proper supporting documentation. * Maintain the fixed asset register, including additions, disposals, depreciation, and physical verification. * Prepare management reports, financial dashboards, and variance analysis (actual vs. budget). * Support the preparation of annual budgets, cash flow forecasts, and rolling projections. Key Responsibilities — Compliance & Audit * Manage UAE VAT compliance: review transactions, prepare and file quarterly VAT returns, and handle FTA queries. * Support UAE Corporate Tax compliance, including computations, filings, and documentation. * Ensure adherence to IFRS, company accounting policies, and internal control procedures. * Coordinate with external auditors during interim and annual audits; prepare schedules, lead schedules, and supporting documentation. * Maintain proper documentation for all financial transactions to ensure audit and regulatory readiness. * Liaise with banks, auditors, tax consultants, and government authorities as required. Key Responsibilities — Operations & Controls * Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely payments to suppliers and collections from customers. * Review supplier invoices, LPOs, and payment runs for accuracy and authorisation. * Monitor cash flow, manage banking transactions, and prepare funding requirements for projects and operations. * Review and process payroll entries, employee reimbursements, and end-of-service settlements in coordination with HR. * Implement and strengthen internal controls to safeguard company assets and prevent errors or fraud. * Identify process improvements and recommend automation or system enhancements to improve efficiency. * Supervise, train, and mentor junior accountants, reviewing their work and supporting their development. Qualifications & Experience * Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional qualification (CA, ACCA, CPA, CMA) is strongly preferred. * Minimum 6–8 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory role. * UAE experience is essential; construction, MEP, or real estate industry background is highly preferred. * Strong knowledge of IFRS, UAE VAT, and Corporate Tax regulations. * Hands-on experience with ERP / accounting software (e.g. Tally, Zoho Books, Sage, Oracle, SAP) and advanced MS Excel skills.
