Senior MEP Design Engineer

The Senior MEP Design Engineer is responsible for leading the design, coordination, and delivery of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems for commercial, residential, industrial, hospitality, healthcare, and mixed-use projects. The role ensures that all designs comply with applicable codes, client requirements, sustainability standards, and project specifications while optimizing cost, quality, and constructability. The position requires close collaboration with architects, structural engineers, contractors, consultants, and project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle, from concept design to construction support. Key ResponsibilitiesDesign & Engineering * Prepare and review MEP system designs for HVAC, plumbing, firefighting, electrical power, lighting, ELV, and associated building services. * Develop concept, schematic, detailed, and construction-stage designs. * Perform engineering calculations, load calculations, equipment sizing, pressure loss calculations, voltage drop calculations, short-circuit studies, and other technical analyses. * Prepare technical specifications, BOQs, design reports, and engineering documentation. * Ensure compliance with local authority regulations, international standards, and project specifications. * Review vendor drawings, material submittals, and technical submissions. Project Coordination * Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, civil engineers, and other disciplines to eliminate design clashes. * Participate in multidisciplinary coordination meetings. * Resolve design conflicts before construction. * Support BIM coordination and clash detection activities. * Ensure timely completion of design deliverables. Technical Leadership * Lead and mentor junior engineers and CAD/BIM technicians. * Review engineering calculations and design documents prepared by team members. * Establish design standards and best practices. * Provide technical guidance throughout project execution. Client & Stakeholder Management * Attend client meetings and technical presentations. * Respond to client comments and design review observations. * Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, consultants, and regulatory authorities. * Provide engineering solutions to project challenges. Construction Support * Review RFIs, shop drawings, and material submittals. * Conduct site visits to verify installation quality and design compliance. * Assist during commissioning and testing of MEP systems. * Support project handover documentation. Quality & Compliance * Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards. * Maintain engineering quality assurance procedures. * Conduct design reviews and risk assessments. * Implement value engineering initiatives where appropriate. Documentation * Prepare design calculations and engineering reports. * Maintain project records and revision history. * Ensure document control procedures are followed. Qualifications * Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Building Services Engineering. * Master's Degree is an advantage. * Professional Engineer (PE), Chartered Engineer (CEng), or equivalent certification is preferred. Experience * 8–12+ years of experience in MEP design engineering. * Proven experience in large-scale commercial, residential, industrial, hospitality, healthcare, or infrastructure projects. * Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering consultants or EPC contractors. * GCC/Middle East project experience is preferred.
