Storekeeper

A construction storekeeper is the backbone of site material management. They receive, inspect, store, and issue building materials and tools. They track inventory to ensure project teams have supplies on time, while preventing shortages, damage, and theft. [1, 2, 3]Key Responsibilities * **Material Receiving:** Unload incoming shipments, inspect for damage, and verify quantities against delivery notes and purchase orders. * **Inventory Control:** Log all materials in and out using inventory software or logbooks. Maintain accurate, real-time stock balances. * **Material Issuance:** Give out construction materials, safety gear, and tools only against approved requisitions or indents. * **Site Coordination:** Communicate closely with project managers and engineers to anticipate material needs and avoid project delays. * **Storage & Safety:** Organize the store yard neatly, label items, and ensure safe handling of hazardous or heavy construction goods. * **Quality Check & Returns:** Assist QA/QC (Quality Assurance/Quality Control) teams in verifying that materials meet project specifications. Track and return surplus or defective items to suppliers. * **Reporting:** Generate regular inventory reports to support cost control and reordering processes. [1, 2, 3, 4] Qualifications & Skills * **Experience:** Usually requires 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in civil, MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing), or fit-out construction environments. * **Product Knowledge:** Strong familiarity with construction materials, tools, and equipment. * **Tech Skills:** Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, especially Excel) and familiarity with inventory management software. * **Soft Skills:** Excellent organization, counting accuracy, and physical stamina.
