AutoCAD Draftsman cum Production SupervisorPosition Summary
The AutoCAD Draftsman cum Production Supervisor is responsible for preparing accurate fabrication and shop drawings and supervising daily workshop production activities. The role ensures that steel fabrication works are completed according to approved drawings, project specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and the agreed production schedule.
Key ResponsibilitiesA. AutoCAD Drafting
* Prepare detailed shop drawings, fabrication drawings, erection drawings, and as-built drawings for structural steel and miscellaneous metal works.
* Prepare general arrangement drawings, connection details, assembly drawings, and individual part drawings.
* Review architectural, structural, and tender drawings before preparing fabrication drawings.
* Prepare material take-offs, cutting lists, bills of materials, and fabrication schedules.
* Revise drawings according to comments received from the client, consultant, engineer, or project team.
* Ensure all drawings show the correct dimensions, levels, materials, welding details, bolt specifications, finishes, and installation requirements.
* Coordinate drawing details with the Project Engineer, Site Engineer, Estimator, and Production Team.
* Maintain proper drawing numbers, revision records, transmittals, and document-control files.
* Prepare DXF files or cutting layouts for CNC, laser, plasma, or other cutting machines when required.
* Identify drawing discrepancies, missing information, and constructability issues and report them before fabrication begins.
* Ensure only approved and latest-revision drawings are issued for production.
* Prepare final as-built drawings based on actual fabricated and installed conditions.
B. Production Supervision
* Plan, organize, and supervise daily steel fabrication activities in the workshop.
* Distribute work to fabricators, welders, helpers, machine operators, and other production personnel.
* Explain approved drawings and fabrication requirements clearly to the production team.
* Monitor cutting, drilling, fit-up, welding, grinding, assembly, painting, galvanizing preparation, and finishing activities.
* Ensure fabrication is carried out according to approved drawings, specifications, method statements, and production schedules.
* Check material sizes, dimensions, alignment, welding, hole locations, and overall workmanship during production.
* Coordinate with the storekeeper to ensure the timely availability and proper issuance of materials, consumables, tools, and equipment.
* Monitor material usage and control unnecessary wastage, rework, and production delays.
* Prepare daily production reports showing completed quantities, manpower allocation, material requirements, delays, and pending activities.
* Coordinate with the Project Engineer and Site Team regarding delivery priorities, site requirements, and installation schedules.
* Arrange finished materials for inspection, identification, packing, loading, and delivery.
* Ensure fabricated items are properly marked according to the approved drawings and erection sequence.
* Monitor the performance and productivity of workshop employees.
* Report manpower shortages, equipment breakdowns, material shortages, and technical issues to management immediately.
* Ensure production targets and delivery deadlines are achieved without compromising quality or safety.
C. Quality and Safety
* Conduct dimensional and visual inspections during and after fabrication.
* Coordinate with the QA/QC Inspector or Project Engineer for inspections and corrective actions.
* Ensure welding and fabrication activities comply with approved procedures and project requirements.
* Prevent the use of incorrect materials or superseded drawings.
* Ensure defective or nonconforming work is identified, segregated, reported, and corrected.
* Enforce workshop safety rules and ensure workers use the required personal protective equipment.
* Maintain good housekeeping and ensure that machines, tools, and working areas are kept safe and organized.
* Conduct toolbox talks and communicate work-related hazards when required.
* Immediately report accidents, unsafe conditions, equipment defects, and safety violations.
Required Qualifications
* Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Drafting Technology, or a related technical field.
* Minimum of three years of relevant experience in AutoCAD drafting and steel fabrication production.
* Previous experience in a structural steel fabrication workshop is strongly preferred.
* Proficient in AutoCAD 2D; knowledge of AutoCAD 3D, Tekla Structures, Advance Steel, or similar software is an advantage.
* Able to read and interpret architectural, structural, fabrication, and erection drawings.
* Good knowledge of structural steel sections, plates, bolts, welding symbols, fabrication tolerances, and surface finishes.
